Writers Officially Hired for Venom Spin-Off Movie

Comic Book Movie News, Venom Movie — By Nix on April 9, 2009

To be honest with you, I’m not sure what Sony’s big obsession with making a Venom spin-off movie (from the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” films) is. I mean, sure, it’s a semi-decent character, but is there really that much potential in it? Then again, maybe I’ve just been exposed to the character for so long, that he’s no longer all that interesting to me. But anyways, Sony still has love for the big glob of black alien goo, because they’ve officially hired writers to take a crack at the script for the spin-off movie.

SciFiWire reports that Sony has handed the character over to “Zombieland” writing partners Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Says the duo about their upcoming gig:

“We read [Venom] growing up, but we were not experts,” Reese said. “We certainly know the mythology of Venom, but went back and learned more when it became clear that we could actually get this job.”

The writers won’t reveal any details about their ongoing script, but they do admit that they live in utter fear of fan mockery. Okay, they didn’t exactly say that, but they did admit that fan scrutiny “terrifies” them. I guess fear is a good thing, right?

Venom. Men fear him, Gene Simmons envies him.

We don’t freaking want a spin off!
    Spin offs always SUCK!

We want him fighting spiderman and Sam farked that up in Spiderman 3!
Just bring him back in Spidey 4.

Plus many fans of Venom are not interested in him alone like the Venom comics:/

Not all spin-off suck. In fact, I know one spin-off manga that most people like better than the original.

It may be good they have to show us what the plot is though. The spiderman movies are good, but have horrible acting. How did they think it would be cool to have the guy from that 70’s show play venom?

I think this could be a great movie if they play their cards right. Who knows this could lead up to the dark avengers or something.

  • My Little Bonsai says:

If Venom doesn’t look like the Venom from Spider-Man 3 then I will go see it!

They seriously messed up the look for Venom in Spider-Man 3. He was skinny and just a load of balls. He needs to look like the Venom in the Drawing above.
