Post-news that the folks behind the “Terminator” franchise had hired two writers to pen the fifth installment in the killer cyborg series, comes this not-so-surprising news from Arnold Schwarzenegger himself that he does, in fact, plan on returning to the series.
The former Governator confirmed his participation in “Terminator 5” to press while in the UK to promote his comeback actioner “The Last Stand”.
“Fast Five’s” Justin Lin was previously attached to helm the film, and at the time the director made it seem as if Arnold’s role would be a huge one. But Lin is now off the movie (the lure of fast cars and wacky capers were too much, apparently), so who knows where recently hired writers Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are going to be taking the franchise.
Even so, Arnold’s appearance in a “Terminator” movie seems like a given, but it remains to be seen how much of a role he’ll actually have. It’s not like he’s getting any younger, and I bet even Skynet might be hardpressed to explain why it’s sending a killer cyborg that happens to look like a 65-year man (most likely 66 by the time the film goes into production) after its enemies.
Granted, Arnold doesn’t exactly look like a 65-year old guy, but come on, he also doesn’t look 35, either. Then again, he was doing this at 55, when he last appeared in a “Terminator” movie in more than just a cameo…
