If you were one of those people who weren’t sure if Hugh Jackman’s “The Wolverine” (his sequel to 2009’s less than well-received “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) would actually ever happen, I don’t blame ya, I’m one of you. After lots of fits and starts, losing directors and writers and what have you, the film is indeed happening as we speak under the direction of James Mangold (“Knight and Day”), and here’s your first look at the film, currently shooting in a town called Kurnell down there in Australia aways.
From the sets, it looks like a Japanese World War II prisoner of war camp. Not a surprise, since ol Wolvie tends to live pretty long. I suspect this will take place early in the film, perhaps a flashback scene to Logan’s time in the Army/Japan before he returns. As we saw in “Origins”, Wolverine spent plenty of his time fighting in various wars. I guess when you have a healing factor that allows you to heal from any wound, getting shot ain’t really much of a bother.
“The Wolverine” will star Jackman, along with Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Hal Yamanouchi, and Tao Okamoto.
The man with the adamantium skeleton slashes back into theaters July 26, 2013.
