Originally rumored to be appearing in “The Avengers 2″ when Joss Whedon let slip that he was excited about introducing a “brother-sister act” to the upcoming superhero sequel, it now seems as if the Scarlet Witch and her bro Quicksilver really are set to make their big-screen debut in “The Avengers 2″.
In an article pimping their upcoming “Iron Man 3″ cover (left), EW confirmed that a source has told them that siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (and children of Magneto of “X-Men” fame) will indeed be appearing in Whedon’s sequel, currently set for 2015.
When confronted with this scoop, Marvel chief Kevin Feige seemed to confirm it, but adds:
I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now.
I somehow doubt that’s going to happen “six months from now” especially since Whedon has said how “excited” he is about introducing the siblings into the Avengers roster. It will be interesting how he does that, considering that, as mentioned, the two mutant siblings are the children of Magneto, currently owned by Fox. I guess one way would be not to mention Magneto?
And oh yeah, there’s also more talk about Robert Downey Jr. not returning for “Iron Man 4″ (should there be an “Iron Man 4″), something that Gwyneth Paltrow continues to promote for some reason. I don’t know why, her character had more to do in this latest film than all two previous “Iron Man” films combined.
In any case, hopefully Whedon is considering the original Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver and not those weirdos from the Ultimates Universe (below). Those guys make me uncomfortable for some reason. I can’t quite put my finger on why, though…
