Don’t Ever Cross Alex Cross’s New Poster

Tyler Perry in Alex Cross (2012) Movie ImageSome guys are born to play cops in movies. Tyler Perry, uh, does not look like one of those guys. (Maybe that’s why this first official poster for “Alex Cross” has the star all tiny and hidden inside a bigger silhouette of “Lost’s” Matthew Fox, playing the bad guy? Just a thought.) You can certainly see why the studio have handed the reins over to him, though. Perry puts butts in the seats. That alone made casting Perry as the star of “Alex Cross” a no-brainer.

Crusading Detective/Psychologist ALEX CROSS (Tyler Perry) meets his match against the psychotic, mob hit man, MICHAEL SULLIVAN aka THE BUTCHER. As Cross investigates the hit man’s gruesome murders, Sullivan decides to send him a deadly message by murdering his wife in cold blood. Now enraged, Cross vows to hunt down the killer if it’s the last thing he does. However, Sullivan is a serial killing mastermind and continues to evade Cross while pushing him to an ethical breaking point as a cop and father. As Cross closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable–a revelation that could change everything. With unstoppable action, and unforeseeable twists, this suspenseful action thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Also starring Jean Reno, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols, Giancarlo Esposito, John C. McGinley, Carmen Ejogo, Chad Lindberg, Cicely Tyson, and directed by Rob Cohen (“The Fast and Furious”).

Dumb tagline. However, while I had some serious reservations about Perry stepping in as Cross, he looks good in the role. I definately see the “Young Morgan Freeman” in the released pictures and poster. It still remains to be seen if he can deliver a solid performance. His Madea series looks utterly ridiculous, I cannot stand the comedies with males dressing up as females or fatsuits craze! IMO it is a cheap laugh and usually poorly done. His Madea series looks utterly ridiculous. Also his cliche’ black family films seem so anti-white to me. That being said I’ve actually never watched one of his movies so what the hell do I know. Hopefully he’ll do a decent job with an iconic litterary and cinematic character.

He is by no means anti-white. But here’s the thing if you have amovie with an all white cast in an all white neigborhood, with not one minority, nobody really blinks. But as you pointed out if a movie is made with an all black cast, in a mostly black if not all black community, thats about the struggles of a black family, it’s seen as anti white. that’s not exactly fair. But I digress.
I’m not sure I’d have picked Perry. I just can’t see him in an action role. I’d have actually picked Chiwetel Ejiofior,

Maybe I shy away from his non-Madea films (they’re just dumb IMO) because i cannot relate. I see your point and agree to a certain extent. The integration of minorities in mainstream films does seem to be a bit stalled. While it still sometimes seems forced (the black best friend of a white main charactor, the hispanic boss, etc.) genuine and authentic roles for non-white characters and actors seems to be coming along.
As for Perry as Cross, I just watched the trailer and he looked good! The tone, the delivery, the physicallity, all seemed perfect for a young Cross. I’ll be checking this out for sure.

I agree 100% it’s those kind of roles or making fun of stereotypes. I long for a day when the color or ethnicity of a person really doesn’t matter as long as they get the character down right. The crew behind “Spectacular Spiderman” wanted to update NYC in the show, as the stories they used were from the 70’s. So they tweaked some characters ethnicity, as other than the Robertsons and Glory Grant (70’s black name if I’ve ever heard one) Peter didn’t have much color in his life, (though I have to give it to them for having him date Glory for a bit) so they made LIz Allen (Harry Osborn’s wife in the comics for a bit) latina, and Jean DeWolf black, Smallville made Pete Ross black, and we all know how Marvel made NIck Fury black…three different times (ULtimates, Marvel films, and now Fury’s son in the mainstream universe who has taken his birth name Nick Fury Jr ) so its moving forward. Look at the new Ultimate SPiderman!!! There’s a clamour for Idris ELba or Chiwetel Ejiofor to play Bond after Craig leaves the role, and lots more. I say bring it!!!

As for Cross, I can’t see the trailer yet but I will on lunch. I think Perry is a decent actor and I;m sure they wouldn’t have picked him but I just can’t see it in my head, that said the trailer will probably change my mind.

I agree. They also had Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil and Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White in the upcoming Man Of Steel.
The trailer is really good. The action is a bit ramped up (I suppose to keep up with the new Bourne-esque films) where Cross’ films are usually more cerebral but still solid. And Matthew Fox as the villain looks dynomite!

          • Dedpool

How’d I forget those? Loved MCD as Kingpin. It actually really fit well. And I can so see Fishburne as Perry White. I can’t wait for that.

I agree they usually are, and i think this one is too, but once it hits revenge territory it ramps up.

            Matthew Fox for Daredevil please!!!

          • Juggernaut

LOL! I was actually thinking of Fox for Bullseye in the DD reboot after seeing the Alex Cross trailer.
I loved MCD as Fisk. However, Fishburne always has that quiet power about him and every itteration of Perry has been loud, bolstering and gruff. I guess we’ll see.

          • Dedpool

I thought that too but then that’s why I was like but he’d be even better as DD.

Agreed with Perry. But I’m sure we’ll get moments of him yelling from his office, simply cause Fishburne’s voice is awesome!!

    That tagline… I mean… that tagline!

      Really, ugh…
