Looking forward to “Valhalla Rising’s” Mads Mikkelsen locking axes (or swords, or whatever his villain ends up wielding) with the Thunder God in “Thor 2”? Well you’ll just have to wait a little longer, because according to the former Bond villain himself, he’s out of the Marvel Studios sequel, thanks to his starring role in NBC’s “Hannibal”, where he’ll be playing the cushy role of TVland’s version of Hannibal the Cannibal.
Mikkelsen, talking to something called Zoomin Movies, said this:
Yeah, that’s not happening unfortunately. I had a meeting with them, but they were a little too late. And then ‘Hannibal’ came in, and everything just came in the same period, so now it’s not happening.
Looks like Marvel was dragging their feet and got beaten out of the Mads sweepstakes by NBC. Oh well.
Chris Hemsworth is expected back for “Thor 2”, along with Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. “Game of Thrones'” Alan Taylor is directing.
Curiously, if he had starred in “Thor 2”, Mads Mikkelsen would be acting alongside Hopkins, playing Odin, who had for years played the big-screen version of Hannibal The Cannibal. So basically, “Thor” would have featured two guys who played the same character in two different formats, in the same movie. How’s that for trivia?
Here’s Mads on the topic of “Thor 2”:
