Young Detective Dee Saves China from Sea Monsters in First Trailer

“Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon” is director Tsui Hark’s sequel to his 2010 hit “Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame”, starring Andy Lau. Lau isn’t back for the second time around, which makes sense since this is apparently a prequel, thus the “Young” in the title. Mark Chao takes over the role as the royal investigator, this time facing creatures from the black lagoon. Or, er, the Chinese seas, anyway. Then at one point he swims in the ocean…while riding his horse! Now that’s skill, baby!

From legendary action director Tsui Hark and the creators of international smash hit DETECTIVE DEE: MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME comes an action-packed and captivating tale of Dee Renjie’s beginnings in the Imperial police force. His very first case, investigating reports of a sea monster terrorizing the town, reveals a sinister conspiracy of treachery and betrayal, leading to the highest reaches of the Imperial family.

Starring Mark Chao, Angelababy, William Feng, Ian Kim and Carina Lau.

Opening Stateside this September 27th, 2013. This is apparently the same day the film is opening in its native Hong Kong, which is new. Normally you’d have to wait ages (or at least, half a year) to get an Asian movie Stateside. Heck, it even beats the film’s China opening by one day!
