And I do mean “costume”. What the hell? I can’t decide if this first official look at Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the titular Lone Ranger is insanely cool or just frightening. I mean, what’s Depp wearing, his war paint? I do like how Tonto is kind of giving the Lone Ranger the side-eye as if to say, “Dude, I could so kill you right now…” I guess that fits in what we already know about the film’s “re-imagined” status — Tonto will take a more prominent role, with the Lone Ranger, for all intents and purposes, taking over the sidekick role.
Directed by Gore Verbinski, the film will also star Helena Bonham Carter, William Fichtner, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, James Frain, and Ruth Wilson.
In any case, here’s what producer Jerry Bruckheimer was kind enough to tweet for us this morning. (click on the pic to enlarge)
Update: Here’s Disney’s official synopsis for the film:
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski comes Disney/Bruckheimer Films’ THE LONE RANGER. Tonto (Johnny Depp), a spirit warrior on a personal quest, joins forces in a fight for justice with John Reid (Armie Hammer), a lawman who has become a masked avenger.
The masked man rides again May 31, 2013.
