Zack Snyder’s Superman May Add Kevin Costner

Or, as Deadline puts it, there is “heightened interest in Kevin Costner for a key role” in the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced reboot.

Speculation about the possible role (remember, he hasn’t officially been added to the cast yet; there is just “talk” as of right now) includes Costner possibly playing Jonathan Kent, Superman’s adopted human dad. Or possibly a younger version of Perry White? I don’t see Costner playing a villain (though he’s already played one in “Mr. Brooks”), but I suppose that’s a possibility. General Zod, perhaps?

“The Tudors” star Henry Cavill will be suiting up as the Man of Steel in 2012.

Odds are, if he’s added he’ll be Johnathan Kent… but he would be really good as a young Perry! I could also see him as Lex. Take the picture above and photo shop his hair out and… viola! Mr. Luthor!!!

Just because Johnathan Kent is a character does’nt mean they will be retelling his origins. Most likely in these films Pa Kent will not die when Clark is a child like the Donner films. What people don’t get is that while rehashing old storylines and characters may be redundant, you still need to set a supporting cast. Certain people need to be in here. Lois, Perry, Jimmy, Lex, Ma &Pa Kent, they need to be represented. I hope that they go the route of the Birthright storyline. That way there can be an origin that is a bit different from the Donner films without totally diverging from the characters and plots that we know and love. Placing Clark in a different atmosphere for the first film would give everyone a break from the same ol’ same ol’. Introduce the supporting cast in the latter half of the final act as Clark arrives in Metropolis after the events from the film. By the time the next one comes out people will want to see Metropolis, The Daily Planet and all of the characters that they are familiar with.

I’ll go Jonathan Kent too, however… I’m surprised nobody said JOR-El.

He could play Jor-El just fine.
