Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro Reunites for Love Story

Asian Movie News — By Nix on August 24, 2007

Zhang Ziyi is somewhat big in the West, but she’s bigger in the East, along with Takeshi Kaneshiro, the Japanese actor known for starring in every movie with a budget that can be called “epic”. The guy just has to be in every movie with big production values, don’t ask me why or how he does it. (Kaneshiro’s got, to name just a few, “The Warlords” with Jet Li and Andy Lau and John Woo’s “The Battle of Red Cliff” coming up.) His and Ziyi’s latest is a love story for Hong Kong director Peter Chan. The film, called “Deng Dai” in Chinese (literally meaning wait or waiting), is about a doctor and a nurse who have been waiting for each other for 18 years because of their love.

The film is based on a novel of the same name, and will begin shooting at the beginning of next year.

Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro last co-starred in Zhang Yimou’s martial arts epic “The House of Flying Daggers”. It doesn’t look like there will be any wire-fu in “Deng Dai”.

Wow, this is great news. I really like the book “Waiting” and was hoping someone would turn it into a movie. It could be really good if done right.
