Zoe Saldana in Talks to Play Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora

Zoe Saldana just can’t seem to stay away from outer space. After surviving Pandora in James Cameron’s “Avatar” and currently manning Uhura’s communications deck in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” movies, the actress is currently in negotiations to join the wacky space-based cast of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Gamora Comic BookSaldana, who is known for her kick-ass onscreen characters in the two aforementioned films (as well as “The Losers” and “Colombiana”), will play another kick-ass character in “Guardiasn” — that of Gamora, the green-skinned and supposedly “deadliest woman in the universe” (left).

If the deal goes through and she does indeed signs on, Saldana will be joining the previously cast Chris Pratt, who will be playing Star-Lord, the Guardians’ human leader, and former wrestler Dave Bautista, who will be playing the equally green-skinned Drax the Destroyer. Still uncast are Rocket Raccoon, a talking raccoon and Groot, a tree, er, thing.

Like I said, wacky space stuff, man. It also means Saldana will be slapping on the green paint. I don’t think she actually had to put on blue paint for “Avatar”, most of that movie being mo-capped and all. She probably won’t be able to get away from that here, though.

There are no concrete plot details for the film, but given the ending of “The Avengers” and the involvement of both Gamora and Drax, it would seem to indicate that a certain Mad Titan will figure prominently into the film’s storyline.

What we do know is that James Gunn will direct the space-based comic book movie, which is currently scheduled for August 1, 2014 as part of Marvel’s Phase 2 slate of films.

And in case you missed it, here are some recent concept artwork for the movie that were recently released by Marvel Studios:

Saldana isn’t a bad choice at all. I can see that, though she doesn’t fill the costume out as well as her comic counterpart (probably aren’t using that look anyway). Another choice would be Gina Corrano, and yet another choice would be Lynn Collins, (though she’d have to coninve me she was so dangerous), and yet another choice would be Kelly Hu (we’ve already seen she can kick ass in X2 and Arrow)

Saldana is too skinny to play Gamora.

Gina Carano on the other hand…

I would have liked to see almost anyone else…at all in this role.

Not a fan I take it?

Zoe Saldana is a great choice for Gamora. She’s been good in Star Trek, and she was awesome in Avatar which is a very similar role to the role she would be playing in this film… so what’s the problem?

      • Juggernaut

Meh, she’s just overexposed and overrated in my opinion is all. You summed up my gripe in your defense. She was in Avatar, Pirates Of The Carribean, Star Trek. Don’t get me wrong she’s good looking and an okay actress I just feel as though there were a lot of other choices who could have been better. Just my opinion.

          Who would you pick?

          • Juggernaut

There are a few that are at the top of my list. Rhona Mitra is my number one pick. Tough, sexy, sleek and has the chops to give the role some gravitas. Elsa Patakay (Fast Five) would be my second pick. Same attributes but less of a filmography to see whether or not she could bring the level of acting that I think the role will need. Lena Hedley was my third pick although she may be a bit too long in the tooth. Olivia Wilde is my fourth pick. Then it’s a tie between Noomi Rapace (who I think would be a really interesting choice), Emily Blunt, Jessica Beil, Ashley Greene, Sarah Shahi, Sienna Guillroy, Summer Glau and Yvonne Strahovsky. All have the right look and physicallity with a varying ammount of acting prowess. Then again, they will be in scenes with Dave Bautista so… LOL
