Zombie Game Dead Island Delivers a Gruesome Trailer

I love a good zombie movie, but I’m pretty hit-and-miss with zombie survival games. For instance, “Dead Rising 2″ drove me bonkers. I mean, the endless zombie killing, the running around different sections of the mall completing missions, the ridiculous boss fights. UGH.

I’m not sure what Techland’s zombie survival game “Dead Island” will offer up in terms of gameplay, but it’s apparently three years in the making, and here’s your first look at the CG trailer. No gameplay footage, just some very nice CG cinematics, and an early look at what the game has to offer from the boys at IGN:

The Royal Palms Resort is perched on the remote island of Banoi in Papua New Guinea. It’s a tropical paradise turned tourist magnet, remote and exotic. Not the sort of place you’d expect to find scattered caches of weapons, boxes of grenades, rocket launchers leaning against walls, and mounted machine guns. In an effort to preserve that reality, Techland, the developers of Dead Island, have stripped those handy gaming conventions away, leaving a stark reality in their place.

Rather than run-and-gun their way through a meat maze, players will be forced to scavenge for objects and use them to beat their undead foes into submission. There are precious few firearms scattered around the island (and even less ammo), so the majority of the combat will be intimate. Knives, machetes, bats, broomsticks, pipes – these are your defenses against the horde of infected monsters. It’s survival horror with a melee action twist, and it’s disgusting.

It honestly doesn’t sound all that different from the “Dead Rising” games, the rarity of firearms notwithstanding, and that familiarity might be why it’s taken the game over 3 years to finally surface. We shall see, though.

Here’s the bloody 3-minute long announcement trailer:

So what are you saying, you have a life and we don’t? Whatever, man, what-EVA.

My video game skill set simply never evolved beyond the original NES. I don’t have the motor skills for more than two buttons.
And I think it’s pretty obvious that I have absolutely no life outside of watching Steven Seagal and Stone Cold Steve Austin movies.

Wow, NES. Brings back memories. My prize console was a Sega Genesis. I could play Sonic for days.
