Remember that very sweet, tender moment when Rick (Andrew Lincoln) hallucinates his dead wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) beyond the prison grounds, wearing that killer white dress? After a bit of making out, Rick eventually snapped out of it and went on his merry ways, but that wasn’t how it was originally supposed to end.
In the original cut of the scene, Lori turns into Zombie Lori, which prompts Rick to lose it and start screaming. The payoff is Michonne seeing Rick go nuts outside the prison fence. As part of the upcoming “Walking Dead” Season 3 DVD/Blu-ray release, you can check out that original scene below.
I can see why they decided to go the other route. In some ways, turning Lori into a zombie hallucination wasn’t necessary and sort of lessened the impact of Lori as Rick’s “guardian angel”-ish guide throughout the later episodes of the season, as Rick sort of uses her as his moral compass in a way. Also, having Lori come back looking angelic and gorgeous, in a strange way, redeemed her character after her less than, er, attractive showing in Season 2, which was really the turning point for her character in terms of fan reaction.
And oh yeah, in case you missed it, we’re giving away three Blu-ray copies of “The Walking Dead” Season 3. There’s still time to enter!
“The Walking Dead” Season 4 returns this October.
