Variety has made it official: “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have come onboard 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” spin-off movie “Deadpool”, and will be penning the further adventures of the merc with a mouth for a possible post-Summer 2010 start date. Why the post-Summer? That’s when star Ryan Reynolds is expected to wrap shooting on the big-budget “Green Lantern” for Warner Bros, which is expected to commence as soon as next month.
The idea is to spin-off the Deadpool character, but also take it in an entirely new direction from “Wolverine” by actually sticking closer to the character’s comic book origins. Obviously you can’t really stay too faithful to the character’s appearance in “Wolverine”, since let’s face it, everything that took place in that movie after Reynolds split the scenery is better left unspoken of. Ever.
